Types of hospitalization

  • Day hospitalization: for investigations, treatment or monitoring that can be completed within a maximum of 12 hours.

General criteria for admission as a continuous hospitalization:

The decision for continued hospitalization is taken taking into account the following cumulative factors:

  • Severity of signs and symptoms: the intensity of the patient's clinical manifestations.
  • Predictability of adverse outcome: the risk that the patient's condition will worsen without continued medical intervention.
  • Availability of diagnostic investigations: the possibility to quickly perform the necessary tests and investigations.
  • Resource depletion in other areas: when diagnosis and treatment cannot be achieved efficiently in outpatient or other forms of care.

General criteria for admission to day hospitalization

Day hospitalization is indicated in the following situations:

  • Medical and surgical emergencies: situations requiring medical supervision of up to 12 hours.
  • Inability to follow up on an outpatient basis: when the diagnosis and/or treatment requires closer medical supervision than can be provided outside hospital.
  • Complex services: diagnostic or therapeutic procedures that are multi-specialized, multidisciplinary, invasive or may generate adverse reactions requiring immediate medical follow-up.
