- Gastroenterology consultations and check-ups:
- What is a gastroenterology consultation? During a gastroenterology consultation, your gastroenterologist will discuss your medical history, current symptoms and lifestyle with you. He or she will perform a physical examination and, based on this, recommend further investigations and establish a personalized treatment plan.
- Non-invasive investigations:
- Abdominal and abdomino-pelvic ultrasounds to evaluate internal organs.
- Endoscopies and colonoscopies:
- Upper digestive endoscopy: allows visualization of the esophagus, stomach and duodenum. Indications: upper abdominal pain, difficulty swallowing, suspected ulcer or gastritis. Contraindications: digestive perforation, severe cardiac or respiratory problems.
- Colonoscopy: allows visualization of the large intestine. Indications: rectal bleeding, changes in bowel transit, colorectal cancer screening. Contraindications: peritonitis, toxic megacolon.
- Both procedures can be performed with or without sedation, depending on patient preference.
- Advanced procedures:
- Polypectomy: removal of polyps discovered during endoscopy or colonoscopy.
- Fibroscan:
- What is Fibroscan? A non-invasive method for assessing liver fibrosis and elasticity, used in the diagnosis and monitoring of chronic liver diseases.
- Indications: chronic hepatitis, hepatic steatosis, liver cirrhosis.
- Contraindications: bulky ascites, pregnancy, morbid obesity.
